Cubs Dump Whitecaps, 6-3

South Bend second baseman Mason Imrie helped his team beat the West Michigan Whitecaps, 6-3. Imrie, who is tied for 10th in the MID in home runs with 12, went 3 for 4 for the Cubs. Cooper McKeehan, credited with the win, is now 3-2. He allowed no runs on no hits. With the win, South Bend raised its record to 73-57.
Had Francisco Torres not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 1st and 2nd, Torres hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Cubs.
"This isn't football or hockey where you can overwhelm your opponents," Torres told the South Bend Herald. "Everyone gets 27 outs and we happened to make the most of them."
