RiverDogs Prevail, 5-4, Over Hickory

The Charleston RiverDogs beat the Hickory Crawdads by a score of 5-4. Charleston third baseman Michael Pearl deserved the lion's share of the credit. Pearl was 2-3 with 2 home runs for the RiverDogs. Charleston pitcher Rhett Frank got the win, upping his record to 2-0. Myles Thomas got the loss. Edgardo Vega, summoned from the bullpen, notched his 9th save.
The RiverDogs got a big at-bat from right fielder Kevin Aakers. For the game, Aakers went 1-3 with a home run. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases empty, he stroked a solo home run. His 6th home run of the season gave Charleston a 5-4 lead.
"I like the grit of this ballclub," Pearl said.
Charleston has 3 straight wins, Hickory 4 straight losses.
