Cubs Get One-Run Win at Washington
|
The inspired effort of Washington first baseman Loren Rogers was not enough to prevent a loss, 7-6, to the Chicago Cubs. Rogers went 2 for 4 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 runs. Lance Guy, 1-2, earned the win in relief. He allowed 2 runs on 3 hits in 2.1 innings. The Cubs, with just their 7th win in 30 games, have played uninspired baseball so far.
Chicago used the timely hitting of Cameron Cannon to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cubs on top, 7-6. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
Cubs manager John Farrell wasn't all too pleased, despite the win, telling reporters that the performance highlighted some clear areas for improvement moving forward. He refused to be more specific, however. "I'm not gonna publicize our weaknesses," he said. "That stuff stays in the clubhouse."
