Kannapolis got a decent performance from pitcher Trevor McDonald, but it wasn't enough to beat the Lakewood BlueClaws. Lakewood won the CMC-NorthEast Stadium contest, 5-2. McDonald threw 7.1 innings allowing 3 runs for the losing team. The winning pitcher was Peyton Drew. His record is now 4-9. The right-hander went 5.1 innings, allowing 2 runs on 8 hits for the BlueClaws. Eric Silva was credited with the save for Lakewood, his 14th of the season.
It could have been a different outcome for Lakewood, had it not been for Jack Holloway, the 20-year old shortstop . Holloway contributed a 2-run double in the top of the first inning to put Lakewood up, 3-0.
Holloway told the Lakewood Daily: "Win or lose, I don't want to see our team outhustled."
The 5th-place BlueClaws have won 6 straight.
