The Hickory Crawdads defeated the Lakewood BlueClaws, 5-1. Doing his part was left fielder Kevin Whittier, who was 2-3 with a home run and a walk. He scored 2 times and drove in 3. Myles Thomas, the winner, improved to 13-2. He held the BlueClaws to 1 run on 2 hits over 5.2 innings, while striking out 8 and walking 2. Drew Pyne picked up the save, his 1st.

Hickory took a 5-1 lead on Whittier's 13th home run of the season. The 3-run home run, which he hit off Jayden De Laura in the top of the seventh, propelled Hickory to the win.

In postgame remarks, Whittier said: "To all who've been doubting my effort -- I hope they saw this game."

The first-place Crawdads have won 4 consecutive games.
