The Hickory Crawdads picked up a win at FirstEnergy Park, knocking off the Lakewood BlueClaws, 1-0. On the mound for Hickory was right-hander Ben Casparius, who played a pivotal role in the win. Pete Smith earned his 5th save in 5 chances. Hickory leads the North by 3½ games.

The BlueClaws had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Crawdads going into the top of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 24-year old right fielder Michael Buck came to the plate. Buck hit a solo home run on a 2-1 sinker from Lakewood hurler Peyton Drew. It was Buck's 7th home run of the year.

Afterward, Crawdads manager Gary Cathcart was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
