Crawdads Defeat Braves, 3-1

The Hickory Crawdads stymied the Rome Braves, 3-1, at State Mutual Stadium. Max Gilliam had a good day at the plate. He was 3 for 4 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once for Hickory. Matty Griffiths snagged the win in relief. In 1.2 innings, the right-hander allowed no runs on 1 hit. He's now 4-1 on the season. Pete Smith earned the save for Hickory, his 8th of the year.
Gilliam had a game-changing home run in the top of the tenth. On a 2-2 fastball from Ed Goff, he banged a 2-run home run to left, giving the Crawdads a 3-1 lead. It was the 6th home run of the year for Gilliam.
"Winning never gets dull," said Gilliam.
The Braves, now 52-76, have lost 6 in a row.
