Braves Take Down Fireflies, 6-3
|
The Rome Braves topped the Columbia Fireflies, 6-3, in South Atlantic League action at State Mutual Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Rome pitcher Blake Walston. In 5 innings, Walston surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run. Jack Anderson collected save number 14.
The Braves got a big hit from shortstop Alejandro Pie. In the bottom of the fifth, Pie pounded a grand slam home run to left. His 7th home run of the season put the Braves ahead, 6-1.
"I made some pitches when I had to," said Walston.
The Braves raised their record to 54-78.
