Barons Stop Smokies, 5-3
|
The Birmingham Barons beat the Tennessee Smokies by a score of 5-3. Birmingham first baseman Brendan McKay deserved the lion's share of the credit. McKay went 2 for 2 with 2 singles and 2 walks. He scored 2 times for the Barons. Brock Borisoff earned his 13th save in 14 chances. The Barons go to 59-64, putting them 4th in the North.
Had Chad Rix not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Rix hit a run-scoring double. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Barons.
McKay told a Birmingham Citizen reporter that he was "gratified" with the win.
