Late Magic Gets Jackson 5-3 Win
|
The Jackson Generals faced a tough opponent in Tennessee pitcher Carter Baumler, but did just enough to pull out the victory at The Ballpark at Jackson by a final score of 5-3. Baumler went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win belongs to Cooper Benson in relief. His record improves to 2-1. Sam Romermo took the loss for Tennessee. Sam Smith was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 20 of 22 save opportunities.
The game was at a stalemate until designated hitter Manuel González came to bat in the bottom of the eighth. Facing Tennessee pitcher Sam Romermo, he hit a 2-2 fastball for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Jackson on top, 4-3.
"Some wins are easy and some are difficult, but either way we come to the ballpark ready to work hard every day," González told the Jackson Daily News.
The Generals go to 54-75, putting them last in the North.
