Gonzalez Leads Scrappers to Win
|
Mahoning Valley right fielder Luis Gonzalez contributed to his team's 9-3 win over the West Virginia Black Bears. Gonzalez went 3 for 4 with 1 run scored to lead the offensive attack for the Scrappers. The winning pitcher was Elliot Baumgartner. He's now 2-2. He went 5 innings, allowing 2 runs on 6 hits for the Scrappers. Mahoning Valley, at 26-24, sits in third place in the Pinckney.
Gonzalez contributed a big hit, a bases-clearing double, for Mahoning Valley in the bottom of the fourth. With his team trailing 2-0, Gonzalez took a fastball from Jarrett Lee and stroked the double to center. His 5th double of the season allowed the Scrappers to leap in front, 3-2.
In postgame comments to the Mahoning Valley Chronicle, Gonzalez said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
