Mahoning Valley Gets 2-1 Win
|
Both teams had their chances, but the Mahoning Valley Scrappers eventually prevailed.
Mahoning Valley got a strong outing from Jack Conroy as the Scrappers defeated the Staten Island Yankees, 2-1, at Richmond County Bank Ballpark. In 6.2 innings, Conroy surrendered 7 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 1. He allowed 1 run.
Mahoning Valley used the clutch hitting of Maxwell Muncy to capture the win. The second baseman drilled a run-scoring double in the top of the seventh inning to give the Scrappers the lead, 2-1. For the game, Muncy had 1 single and 1 double in 4 at-bats.
Afterward, Scrappers manager Lenny DiNardo was ebullient. "That was a fun game to coach," he told a group of reporters, adding, "I hope it was just as fun to watch."
After today's action, Mahoning Valley sits at 36-29, while Staten Island falls to 36-29.
