Rays Prevail, 4-2, Over Viera
|
The Port Charlotte Rays topped the Viera Nationals, 4-2, in Gulf Coast League action at Charlotte Sports Park. The game was highlighted by the performance of Port Charlotte pitcher Jake Madden. The winning pitcher was Madden, now 2-1. He tossed 5.2 innings of 4-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 9. The Nationals, now 16-21, have lost 4 in a row.
In the top of the ninth, Nate Larue stood in the box, looking for a pitch to hammer. The Nationals were trailing 4-2, but had runners on 1st and 2nd. That's when Gustavo Peña made a terrific pitch and Larue flied out. Gone was the dream of a Viera comeback.
