Nationals Squelch Pirates Offense in Shutout Win
|
Viera and Bradenton took Mother Nature's best shot and still managed to complete their ballgame.
Emílio Maldonado was locked and loaded, helping the Viera Nationals beat the Bradenton Pirates, 3-0. In 7 innings, Maldonado surrendered 4 hits, while striking out 2 and walking 1. He allowed no runs. The save went to Juan García, number 5 for him.
It could have been a different outcome for Viera, had it not been for Brandon Kinney, the 19-year old third baseman . Kinney contributed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning to put Viera up, 2-0.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Kinney told a Viera Chronicle reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
The victory puts Viera at 21-32.
