In a low-scoring affair between the Springfield Cardinals and the Frisco RoughRiders, pitcher Skylar Leonard was the difference between victory and defeat. The Springfield right-hander earned accolades in the 3-1 Cardinals win. Leonard, now 8-14, was the winner. In 6 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing no runs. Springfield occupies second place in the North at 57-82.
Brendon Tolbert had a big hit for Springfield in the top of the second inning. With Springfield leading 1-0, Tolbert hit a solo home run. It was his 3rd home run of the season and put the Cardinals up, 2-0.
"Winning the game is always the first objective," Leonard said.
