Cubs Rally Past Bees to Claim 1-0 Series Lead
The South Bend Cubs combined strong pitching and timely hitting to take Game 1 of the Championship, 5-4, in a walk-off win over the Burlington Bees today.

The Cubs got a solid day from starter Dan Villari. The right-handed Villari threw 6.0 innings of 3-hit ball in the win, which gave the Cubs a 1-0 lead to start the best-of-7 series.

The game came to a dramatic end. In the bottom of the ninth, with South Bend trailing 4-3, Bennie Prince hit a fastball from Brayan Medina for a 2-run home run, giving the Cubs the walk-off win.

"We're one game closer to our goal," South Bend manager Adrian Gonzalez said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at O'Brien Field in South Bend.
