The Sarasota Orioles did just enough to secure a victory over the Port Charlotte Rays, 3-2, at Ed Smith Stadium. Nobody did more than pitcher Damian Mendoza. Mendoza went 5 innings to notch the win. He scattered 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8. His record improves to 4-0. Sarasota goes to 48-20. The win puts them 5 games up in their division.

The Orioles got a big at-bat from shortstop Jett Williams. For the game, Williams was 1 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. In the bottom of the fifth, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 5th home run of the season gave Sarasota a 3-1 lead.

"We were in it," said Port Charlotte manager Lou Marson. "We just didn't score enough runs."
