The 24-year-old rookie on the mound turned out to be the least of the Augusta GreenJackets worries.

Giving a high-pressure playoff start to youngster Justin Grasso seemed like a risky move for the GreenJackets, but it was one of the few things that went right at L.P. Frans Stadium today. Grasso tossed 5.1 solid innings, but it was all for naught after Augusta dropped a 3-2 decision. With the win, Hickory took a 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 Championship.

Had Luis Rodriguez not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Rodriguez hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Crawdads.

"We'll put that win in the can," said Rodriguez, "and go after the next one."

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory.
