Nuts Prevail, as Round 1 Goes to the Wire
The fans in Modesto are delirious, while there is little joy to be found in San Jose.

The Modesto Nuts finished off the San Jose Giants 3-1 in the deciding game of the Round 1 played at John Thurman Field.

They took the series 3-2 and will now head to the Championship.

For his standout play, Modesto second baseman Stanley Mills was voted the series' Most Valuable Player.

He batted .444, drove in 4 runs and scored 5 to lead his club to victory.

"We could never really figure out how to pitch to Mills and that doomed us," said Giants manager Chris Tracz. "Hats off to Modesto, though. That was a great series."

The Modesto Nuts will play against the Inland Empire 66ers in the next round. Inland Empire won their series against the High Desert Mavericks 3 games to 1. The Championship schedule will be announced after the Round 1 finishes.
