St. Lucie Tops Lakeland Again, 2-0

Their bats were silent and St. Lucie had a rookie on the mound. No problem.
On a day when the Mets struggled to string together much offense, the club got a big boost from 23-year-old starter Jacob Maton. The right-hander quieted the Lakeland Flying Tigers at Osceola County Stadium to help St. Lucie take the 2-0 decision and seize a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-7 Championship.
Hunter Goodman took Jonathan Becker deep in the bottom of the fourth. His solo home run put the Mets on top, 1-0. In all, Goodman had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"It's always fun to see the other guys getting frustrated, but the series isn't over and we've got to make sure to keep them on their heels," St. Lucie manager Mel Stottlemyre Jr. said.
The next game is set to be played for Sunday, September 17th , 2023 at JetBlue Park at Fenway South in Lakeland.
