Tennessee Win to Pull Even With Montgomery
|
The Tennessee Smokies and the Montgomery Biscuits will take the Round 1 to a decisive 5th game. Facing a must-win situation today, the Smokies shut out the Biscuits 5-0 at Montgomery Riverwalk Stadium to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Tennessee right-hander Carter Baumler did his part. He threw 5.1 innings of shutout ball.
Tennessee used the timely hitting of Greg T. Jones to seize the win. The second baseman stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Smokies on top, 1-0. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We're one game closer to our goal," Tennessee manager Paul Maholm said later. "It isn't any more complicated than that."
Game 5 is scheduled for Sunday at Smokies Park in Knoxville.
