Mississippi Breaks Through for First Win in Championship; Now Trails 3-1
|
The Mississippi Braves have closed some of the gap between themselves and the series-leading Tennessee Smokies, winning 6-5 at Smokies Park today. Braves second baseman Luis Almanzar was 3-4 with a triple and a double, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once. The win cuts the deficit facing the Braves to 3-1 in the best-of-7 Championship.
The game was all tied up in the top of the eighth, until Almanzar delivered big-time for Mississippi, stroking a dramatic run-scoring single off Sam Romermo. The game-changing hit put the Braves on top, 6-5.
"Win or lose, we pick each other up in this clubhouse," Almanzar told the Mississippi News.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Smokies Park in Knoxville.
