The Johnson City Cardinals started the Championship in dominant fashion today, blowing out the host Bluefield Blue Jays at Bowen Field by a score of 12-4 and securing an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-5 series. Cardinals second baseman Travis Bazzana was 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 4 runs and scored once.

The result might have been different, had it not been for Jacob Reimer, the Johnson City third baseman. Reimer had a run-scoring single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Cardinals ahead, 5-4. For the game, Reimer had 1 double and 2 singles in 5 at-bats.

"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Bazzana.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Bowen Field in Bluefield.
