Lakeland Wins at Home to Narrow Series Deficit to 3-2
Ricky Vanasco was not about to watch an opponent celebrate a championship on his home field.

The right-hander pitched the Lakeland Flying Tigers to victory at JetBlue Park at Fenway South today, staving off the St. Lucie Mets, who remain one game away from a title. Vanasco threw 8.0 innings allowing 3 runs. The win cuts the series deficit for the Flying Tigers to 3-2 in the best-of-7 series.

The Flying Tigers benefited from a costly error in the bottom of the fifth. With Jesús Vargas at bat and Lakeland trailing 2-1, the St. Lucie miscue allowed Lakeland to plate 2 and take the lead, 3-2.

"It was a good day but I'm not letting my guard down," Vanasco said. "I'll let my guard down as soon as someone puts a big, fat championship ring on my finger."

The next game is set to be played for Thursday, September 21st , 2023 at Osceola County Stadium in Port Saint Lucie.
