Blue Jays Shut Out Cubs, 6-0
|
Toronto picked up a win at Rogers Centre, bumping off the Chicago Cubs, 6-0. Pitcher Michael Wacha was a major reason the Blue Jays emerged victorious. In 6 innings, Wacha surrendered 1 hit, while striking out 6 and walking 2. He allowed no runs. Toronto is now 70-49, 2½ games up in the American League East.
The Blue Jays got an important contribution from catcher Charles Cutler, who in the bottom of the second knocked a first pitch curveball into left-center for a run-scoring double. It was his 19th double of the season and put the Blue Jays ahead, 2-0.
"Good baseball players make you a smarter manager," said Toronto manager Bruce Bochy.
