Tigers Stumble, Lose to Angels
|
The Los Angeles Angels beat the Detroit Tigers, 8-2, at Angel Stadium of Anaheim. Los Angeles shortstop Adam Smith had an outstanding performance. He went 3 for 5 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 2 and driving in 3. Tanner Houck got the win, improving to 3-1. He pitched 5.1 innings, giving up 4 hits and 2 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 4. The first-place Angels have a one-game lead in their division.
Josh Bell, who finished 5th in the NL in OPS with .870 in 2019, chipped in for Los Angeles with a 2-run single in the bottom of the first. For the game, the first baseman had 2 hits in 4 at-bats with 1 home run, 1 single, 1 run scored, and 3 runs batted in.
"We took advantage of our opportunities," Bell told the Los Angeles News. "It's as simple as that."
