Astros Clip Mariners, 6-5
|
Two of the league's best teams met for a late-season clash.
Seattle shortstop Francisco Lindor had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Lindor was 3-4 with a home run, a double, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2, even as Houston beat the Mariners, 6-5. Miguel Tobías picked up the win in relief for Houston, while José Padilla took the loss.
Houston used the timely hitting of George Cuyco to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Astros on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I still think this team can play even better," Cuyco told the Houston Gazette.
The Astros have an impressive 99-59 record.
