Tampa Bay picked up a win at Fenway Park, toppling the Boston Red Sox, 4-3. Pitcher Jeffrey Starks was one of the reasons the Rays triumphed. Tampa Bay reliever Dan Hughes picked up the win, upping his record to 7-4. Robert Paullus was saddled with the loss. Jeremy Benson notched his 3rd save in 6 chances.
Tampa Bay used the timely hitting of Jorge Alvarado to capture the win. The pinch hitter socked a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to put the Rays ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a big one.
Alvarado told a Tampa Bay Today reporter that he was "satisfied" with the win.
With the victory, the Rays upped their record to 84-74.
