Tides Keep Streak Alive With 8-2 Win
|
The Norfolk Tides picked up a win at Harbor Park, taking down the Pawtucket Red Sox, 8-2. Starting pitcher Brandon Bonilla was a big reason why. Bonilla, the winner, moves to 3-4. He threw 6 innings of 1-hit ball, while fanning 8 and giving up 4 walks. The second-place Tides have won 9 straight games.
The Red Sox had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Tides going into the bottom of the fourth inning. That changed quickly when the 22-year old shortstop Anthony Volpe came to the plate. Volpe hit a 2-run double on a 1-1 changeup from Pawtucket hurler David Miller. It was Volpe's 14th double of the year.
Said losing manager Pete Rose Jr.: "Give the Tides credit. They took advantage of our mistakes."
