Indianapolis pitcher Cody Ponce did his part in helping his team beat the Gwinnett Stripers, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters in check throughout the game. Sam Bazley, 2-2, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2.1 innings. With the win, Indianapolis pushed its record to 68-57.

Indianapolis took a 2-1 lead on Gary Matthews III's 11th double of the season. The run-scoring double, which Matthews III hit in the bottom of the eighth, left Gwinnett pitcher Mike Franklin shaking his head.

Ponce said his team "played with determination."
