Gwinnett Stripers starter Will Heupel was in a groove as he led his team to a win over the Charlotte Knights, 6-1. Heupel, now 3-9, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 3 hits, while striking out 5, walking 3, and allowing 1 run. Gwinnett, at 74-56, is 5½ games up in the South.
Gwinnett used a well-timed hit by Marvin Grun to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the third inning to put the Stripers ahead, 2-0. Though it was his only hit in 5 at-bats, it was important.
Heupel called the win the result of "everyone being in sync."
