Flying Squirrels Suffer 6-3 Setback
The Reading Fightin Phils overcame a fine performance by Richmond shortstop José Valdéz to defeat the Flying Squirrels, 6-3, at FirstEnergy Stadium. Valdéz was 3-5 with a home run and 2 singles. Reliever Victor Jones picked up the win. His record improves to 3-2. Michael McGreevy took the loss. Zack Showalter sewed up the save, his 2nd.

The Fightin Phils got a big at-bat from center fielder Victor Victor Mesa. For the game, Mesa went 2-5 with a double. He drove in 3 runs. In the bottom of the sixth, with the bases loaded, he stroked a bases-clearing double. His 11th double of the season gave Reading a 6-3 lead.

In postgame comments to the Reading Bulletin, Mesa said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."

Reading now has a record of 60-48 with the win.
