Fans watched the Salem Red Sox and the Frederick Keys fight to the finish.

The Salem Red Sox topped the Frederick Keys, 2-1, in Carolina League action at Harry Grove Stadium. The game was highlighted by the performance of Salem pitcher Samuel Strickland. Pete Compton closed it out for his 1st save.

Salem needed the clutch hitting of Colt Keith to notch the win. The designated hitter hammered a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Red Sox on top, 2-1. For the game, Keith had 1 home run and 1 single in 4 at-bats.

"There was no wiggle room in this one," said Strickland.

The win gives Salem a record of 3-1.
