GreenJackets Need Extra Frames to Get Past Tourists
|
The Augusta GreenJackets got a stellar performance from pitcher Ian Villers, who handcuffed the Asheville offense en route to a win, 4-2, at McCormick Field. Earning his 9th save for Augusta was Matt McDonald. Augusta occupies second place in the South at 19-12.
The game was at a stalemate until second baseman José Reyes came to bat in the top of the tenth. Facing Asheville pitcher Robbie Ray, he hit a 0-1 fastball for a 2-run single. It was a game-changer, putting Augusta on top, 4-2.
"Our team showed some gumption," said Reyes. "I like it."
