Threshers Squelch Tortugas Offense in Shutout Win
|
The Clearwater Threshers satisfied the home crowd at Carpenter Complex, treating them to a season-opening win, 3-0, over the Daytona Tortugas. Starting Pitcher Shane Illingworth was the standout performer for Clearwater. The save was credited to Levi Bennett, his 1st.
The Threshers got an important contribution from designated hitter Félix Herrera, who in the bottom of the fourth punched a 3-1 sinker into right for a run-scoring triple. It was his 1st triple of the season and put the Threshers ahead, 2-0.
In postgame comments to the Clearwater Observer, Illingworth said, "If the effort is there, the wins will come."
