The Mavericks grabbed a win, 3-2, at Lake Elsinore Diamond, overcoming a fine effort from Lake Elsinore pitcher Grant Golden. Golden went 6 innings and allowed no runs. Brent Humphrey collected his 4th save. The Mavericks, now 12-2, have hit the ground running this season.
High Desert used a clutch hit from Juan Valentín to get the win. The catcher drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the ninth inning to put the Mavericks ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"We'll take some time to unwind," said Valentín, "and then get after it again."
