The Modesto Nuts got a stellar performance from pitcher Ricardo Laucer, who handcuffed the San Jose offense en route to a win, 3-2, at San Jose Municipal Stadium. The win puts Modesto at 10-6.

Modesto used a well-timed hit by Bill Mertes to capture the win. The third baseman socked a 2-run double in the top of the sixth inning to put the Nuts ahead, 2-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.

"We put together a nice win," Laucer said.
