Mavericks Bridle 66ers, 2-0
|
Inland Empire got a terrific performance from pitcher Rickie Brehaut, but it wasn't enough to beat the High Desert Mavericks. High Desert won the BB&T Coastal Field contest, 2-0. Brehaut threw 8.0 innings of 5-hit ball for the losing team. The first-place Mavericks go to 17-13.
The 66ers had been locked in a 0-0 tie with the Mavericks going into the bottom of the third inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old center fielder Misael Urbina came to the plate. Urbina hit a 2-run double on a full count fastball from Inland Empire hurler Rickie Brehaut. It was Urbina's 11th double of the year.
"It's always a heck of a lot easier to get to sleep after a win," Urbina told the High Desert Daily News. "I know I'll rest easy tonight."
