Chris Newell had a good game, but he could not keep the Winston-Salem Dash from falling, 7-5, to the Wilmington Blue Rocks at New Winston-Salem Ballpark. The Winston-Salem left fielder went 1-2 with a home run and a walk, while scoring 2 runs in the loss. Reliever Lester Hardy picked up the win. His record improves to 1-0. Vicente Vargo took the loss. At 35-39, Wilmington is in third place in the North.
Carlos Rivera, the 23-year old left fielder , had a direct impact on the outcome. Rivera contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the ninth inning to put Wilmington up, 5-4.
"You know, at the end of the day, it's about who scores the most runs," said Wilmington manager Tom Goodwin.
