The Salem Red Sox knocked off the Myrtle Beach Pelicans, 11-4, at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium. Javier Ruíz was a big reason Salem won. The third baseman went 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while scoring 3 runs and driving in 2. The win belongs to Chad Dallas in relief. His record improves to 7-8. Mathieu Gauthier took the loss for Myrtle Beach. The first-place Red Sox have a one-game lead in their division.
Salem took a 8-4 lead on Matt Washington's 17th double of the season. The bases-clearing double, which Washington hit in the bottom of the seventh, left Myrtle Beach pitcher Mathieu Gauthier visibly frustrated.
"I just tried to make good contact," said Washington.
