The 5-4 Lynchburg win over Carolina was due largely to Luis Matos. The Hillcats left fielder went 4 for 5 with 4 singles, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. Lynchburg reliever Ryan Hawks picked up the win, upping his record to 4-2. Jim Jackson was saddled with the loss. Lynchburg improves to 74-51 with the win. They lead their division by 8½ games.

The game was still up for grabs in the bottom of the ninth. With one out, Matos hit a curveball from Logan Bender for a run-scoring single. The Hillcats, in dramatic fashion, had a walk-off win.
