Aakers Excels, But Flying Tigers Win
Crowds lined up early in front of JetBlue Park at Fenway South, eagerly awaiting the start of the 2024 Florida State League season. On the mound was Rhett Lowder for the visiting Tampa Tarpons and Brandon Blackledge for the hometown Lakeland Flying Tigers. In a spirited contest, the Flying Tigers pulled out the win, defeating the Tarpons by the score of 8-7. Especially impressive was Kevin Aakers. The win belongs to Luis Segura in relief. His record improves to 1-0. Claudio Cordero took the loss for Tampa.

Had Brett Allen not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and the bases loaded, Allen hit a 2-run single. That made the score 8-6, in favor of the Flying Tigers.

"I like our moxie," said Flying Tigers manager Luis Sojo.
