Lakeland Gets 3-1 Win
|
The Lakeland Flying Tigers went home winners at Roger Dean Stadium, thanks in large part to starter Ricky Vanasco. Vanasco stifled the Jupiter Hammerheads, enabling Lakeland to grab the 3-1 win. Juan Valdéz was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 26 of 29 save opportunities. Lakeland leads the North by 7½ games.
Lakeland used the timely hitting of Jesús Vargas to seize the win. The left fielder stroked a 2-run single in the top of the seventh inning to put the Flying Tigers on top, 3-0. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"I just tried to attack the bottom of the zone," Vanasco said.
