Bees Need Extra Innings to Top Kernels, 3-2
|
The Burlington Bees got a strong performance from pitcher Jake Mills, who stymied the Cedar Rapids offense en route to a win, 3-2, at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Brandon Sproat earned the win after being called from the bullpen. The right-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 3.2 innings. He upped his record to 1-0. Brayan Medina earned the save for Burlington, his 1st of the year.
Burlington got the win thanks to a clutch hit from Colson Montgomery. The third baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the tenth inning to put the Bees ahead, 3-2. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it had a major impact on the outcome.
"That was your kind of game, if you like high drama," said Bees manager Will Bolt.
Cedar Rapids is now 0-2.
