Baseball fans saw a good contest between the Fort Wayne TinCaps and West Michigan Whitecaps.

Starting pitcher Joel Machado was a major factor in the 4-2 Fort Wayne TinCaps triumph over the West Michigan Whitecaps. Brandon Gibson was called on to finish, recording his 1st save.

The Whitecaps had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the TinCaps going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 21-year old catcher Dylan Garand came to the plate. Garand hit a run-scoring double on a 0-2 fastball from West Michigan hurler Collin Chandler. It was Garand's 3rd double of the year.

West Michigan manager Coco Crisp said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.

The loss drops the Whitecaps to 13-8.
