Grab Some Bench: Becker Retires 27 in a Row
Sunday, July 25th, 2021
Even as he reached the pinnacle of baseball achievement, Austin Becker never broke a sweat.
The 21-year-old right-hander pitched a perfect game at BB&T Coastal Field today for the High Desert Mavericks, retiring 27 in a row.
"I still don't believe it," Austin Becker told reporters inside the Mavericks locker room, following the win. "Throwing a perfect game just doesn't seem real."
Becker was a picture of calm on the mound as he struck out 11 Stockton hitters and walked none as the Mavericks took the 11-0 victory.
"I had the best control of my life today and it felt almost effortless," Becker said with a smile. "I never knew throwing a perfect game would be so easy."
His record for the year is 3-0 in 7 starts and Becker has a 2.87 ERA.
