Stone Crabs Gonzáles Booms 3 HRs Monday, July 11th , 2022 Charlotte Stone Crabs right fielder Pepe Gonzáles put on a dazzling display of power today at Charlotte Sports Park against the Clearwater Threshers. In the 6-2 Stone Crabs victory Gonzáles penned his name into the record books, slamming a trio of home runs in one of baseball's finest single-day efforts. "He can hit them out anywhere, right, center, left, it doesn't matter," Clearwater manager Frank Francisco said. "He's super strong and stays on the ball so well." Along with his three home runs, the 23-year-old had 4 hits in 5 at-bats, 6 RBIs and 3 runs scored. "Life will always throw you curves, just keep fouling them off," Gonzáles said after the game, when asked about his hitting philosophy. "The right pitch will come, and when it does, be prepared to run the bases. Or trot around them, like I did today." Pepe Gonzáles singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, hit a two-run home run off Edison Hall in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off Dave Brown in the 7th and hit a three-run home run off John Harris in the 8th. Currently Gonzáles is batting .302 with 70 hits and 13 home runs. He has knocked in 48 runs and scored 42 times. |
