Maltzberger Sizzles -- Smokes Hammerheads for 5 Hits Monday, June 21st, 2021 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for Joel Maltzberger, it came around today. The 21-year-old center fielder scattered hits all over Hammond Stadium to pace the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels to a 8-7 victory over the Jupiter Hammerheads. Jupiter skipper Carlos Febles told reporters in the press room that "Maltzberger deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Maltzberger hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." Joel Maltzberger singled in the 2nd, walked in the 4th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 9th, singled in the 10th, doubled in the 12th and struck out in the 14th. Thus far this season in 61 games Maltzberger is batting .238 with 1 home run, 19 RBIs and 27 runs scored. He has 59 hits in 248 at-bats. View Boxscore |
