Rice on Fire: 5-for-8 for Tempe Wednesday, September 1st, 2021 It was a sensational day at the plate for Dan Rice as he led the charge to a 9-5 win over the Athletics. The Tempe center fielder was pure misery for the Mesa (OAK) pitching staff. He left them shell-shocked with 5 hits in 8 at-bats in an explosive display of hitting. "Rice put the ball into play and he really hit it hard," said Jeff Smith, manager for the Athletics, after the game. "When you do that, you've got a good chance to do some damage. And that's what happened. I feel like we threw some good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball." Dan Rice singled in the 1st, struck out in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, singled in the 7th, struck out in the 9th, singled in the 11th, hit a two-run double in the 12th and singled in the 14th.
