Sonier Torches Scrappers for 5 Hits
|
At Eastwood Field, George Sonier of the Connecticut Tigers put on a hitting clinic. He banged out 5 hits in 5 at-bats and mauled the Mahoning Valley Scrappers pitching staff, but Connecticut still came up short on the scoreboard.
The Tigers went home with the 6-2 loss, in spite of a standout 5-hit performance from their catcher.
"Hey, it's great to get that many hits in a game, but it would have been nice to win the game, too," Sonier said in the postgame interview.
George Sonier singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off Stephen Murphy in the 9th.
Thus far this year, Sonier has hit .335 with 17 home runs and 49 RBIs.
